Get link code and online sync problems

Just relink the app.
In your watch, use the "Get Link Code" menu option.
Go to Link Your App and input the code.
Then return to your watch, run the app and use the "Online Sync" menu option to download your configuration.

This situation happens when the app is first installed, or after you use the "Get Link Code" and do not input the code on the website. In these cases, the "Online Sync" will not recognize a valid key.

The app is downloading the config and keeping it in memory, but it is not saving the configuration in your device, forcing you to get a new code and sync every time you start the app.

There are two common causes for that, insufficient storage space or insufficient memory to execute the saving process.

To address the insufficient storage space, clean up your device, remove that not used widgets, apps, and faces (use Garmin Express software on your computer, it is much faster than using the mobile phone), after that turn-off and on the device.

Out of Memory Error

Garmin Connect on Windows Phone is not capable of routing app requests to the internet.
That means: Until Garmin changes the implementation of Garmin Connect software for Windows Phone, Windows Phone users won't be able to use Genius Wrist's apps since they require an internet connection.

Do not worry; all your settings are stored on the website.
Just generate a new LINK CODE in your device, go to Link Your App page and input the code, then do an ONLINE SYNC on your device to download your configuration.

That means the Bluetooth connection between your mobile phone and your watch is not established.
Open the Garmin Connect app on your mobile and take a look at the connection status in the devices list.
The maintenance of the Bluetooth connection with your phone is an internal feature of your watch. If you are experiencing a lot of instability, verify if you have the latest version of Garmin Connect App in your phone and the most recent firmware in your watch. If the instability persists I recommend you request Garmin Support; the issue may be related to a compatibility issue with your phone hardware and Garmin Connect App.

Genius Wrist Apps do not connect directly to the internet. All apps depend on Garmin Connect App running on your phone to act as a bridge between your watch and the internet. 

Genius Wrist's website never generates some error codes, and they happen because of problems in Garmin Connect App running on your phone.
The error codes 300, 402 and 2 are some examples of error generated by the Garmin Phone app, not Genius Wrist's website.
Error messages usually occur if you try to "get link code" or "online sync" while your device is transferring data to your phone like uploading activities, sending activity tracking info, etc. These transmissions are not related to Genius Wrist apps, but it seems that Garmin Connect App cannot handle multiple transmissions simultaneously. 

Bluetooth connection instability can also cause this issues.

Licensing Information

General

The session recording is not part of Genius Wrist's apps. It is a function performed by the watch itself.

The apps only send commands to start, pause, resume, save or discard an activity. The device does the sensor data acquisition and recording.

Be aware Garmin set restrictions to what information is recorded depending on the sport and type of app.

For example:
- the foot pod is ignored in cycling activities
- cadence is not calculated in swimming sessions
- Only NATIVE Garmin's apps can capture stroke data in swimming activities.

The list of restrictions vary depending on the watch model, and Garmin may change it anytime in new firmware releases.


The zone table used by the software to calculate the heart rate related data fields is the one configured in Gamin Connect web site. 

Your watch will automatically download your settings from Garmin's website.

The following data fields are affected by the heart rate zone table setting.

Heart Rate Zone - Number that indicates with precision your heart rate zone based on your current heart beats per minute.
Percentage of Maximum Heart Rate (hr% of max) - Number from 1 to 100 indicating your current heart beats per minute as percentage of your maximum heart rate
Percentage of Heart Rate Reserve (%hrr) - Number from 1 to 100 indicating your current heart beats per minute as percentage of your heart rate reserve

- IQ! Caused by an out of memory error:

If you are sure about your firmware version, turn your device off and on and run the app.
If after that you still get the IQ! try the next step.

Configure your watch to the default watch face (digital for example), turn your device off and on and run the app.

Why does this happen? (some technical info)
Your device has a very limited amount of memory to run the programs (I am not talking about storage memory, the one you see when you plug the device in your computer!! I am talking about RAM memory, the one used to execute applications).

All apps and watch faces of the store are developed under memory usage limits defined in Garmin specification.
That means all apps should run with no memory usage problems on any device since they are within the specs. But under certain conditions, the watches are not capable of providing the amount of memory required for the apps.
It happens due to a lot of technical reasons. One of them is that so many features were added to some devices firmware, that they took away the available memory to run third party apps, making these devices more susceptible to out of memory errors. It is the case of the fenix model, and that is the reason this model has so many complaints about this issue.
The occurrence of this error also depends on the firmware version you are running. When a firmware update comes, we never know if it will handle memory usage better or worse.

For your information, Garmin specification determines that an app can use up to 64KB of RAM memory.
Workout Genius and Workout Builder were designed to consume about 40KB to 45KB of memory.
Gym Timer consumes 55KB; it uses more memory and cause of that is has more occurrences of IQ! error.

There is no definitive solution for this problem, but selecting a watch face that uses less memory, leaving more memory available to the apps is a workaround that usually works. There is no way to know the amount of memory a watch face uses unless the developer informs it, so it is trial and error. I recommend the first test with one of the default watch faces (digital or analog).

These procedures are valid for any Connect IQ app running on any device. 

- IQ! caused by an outdated firmware:

- Garmin Express confirms my watch is up to date and the app still crashes:
It's been reported by various users that sometimes, Garmin Express does not provide the correct info. The only way to be sure about your firmware version is to verify the information in the watch itself.
In most devices, the firmware version info is in Settings/System/About
Search Garmin's website to verify the latest firmware available to your device.

App installation/removal and download issues are related to Garmin App Store, Garmin Connect Mobile app running on your phone or Garmin Express app on your computer.
Unfortunately, we cannot help you with that cause these functions are not part of Genius Wrist's apps or website. You will have to request support from Garmin to solve this issue.

Sync Failed, Not Enough Storage Space Available

All activity sessions recorded by Genius Wrist apps are sent to Garmin Connect.
Session recording is not part of Genius Wrist apps; it is an internal feature of your device. The apps simply send commands to the watch to save, start, stop, discard or pause a session.
The process of sending recorded sessions to Garmin connect is an automatic function executed by your watch, not by Genius Wrist apps. The "online sync" menu option inside Genius Wrist apps only download to your device the configuration that is stored in Genius Wrist website.

All data fields available in Genius Wrist's apps are calculated with information provided by the watch firmware, some require calculation and others are displayed exactly as informed.

The following data fields are shown without any processing, and their values are exactly what was provided by your watch firmware:
Altitude, average cadence, average distance, average power, average speed, average pace, calories, cadence, heart rate, power, speed, pace, distance, timer, max cadence, max heart rate, max power, max speed, max pace, total ascent, total descent, temperature, total steps.

If the HR is unstable, or if the speed or pace is erratic, if no distance or speed is displayed, it is not a failure in the app. It is your watch that is not calculating this information.
Here is a list of details you must consider when using any app.
- Be sure your heart rate strap is correctly positioned.
- Learn how to properly adjust your watch band for the best performance of your optical HR sensor.
- Learn the limits and precision of your watch GPS and note its performance is affected by near buildings and weather conditions.
- Your device will not calculate calories expended without heart rate information.

All other data fields are computed based on the data fields in the list above, so do not expect to have lap distance or lap speed if the device does not provide distance or speed.

Garmin put some restrictions in Connect IQ apps, and they vary depending on device model and firmware version.
For example:
- After firmware 7.2 the ability to display the values from the internal temperature sensor was removed by Garmin from fenix devices.
- The ability to calculate distances indoor without a foot pod was removed from the firmware of most devices almost a year ago.

Note that these restrictions apply only to Connect IQ apps, Garmin native apps kept this functions, meaning that you watch is capable of performing the feature, but the ability to explore it was removed from the Connect IQ platform.

Run the Genius Wrist app you want to configure and then open the menu.

How to open the menu in each device model: 

FR 920: press the LEFT BOTTOM button for 3 seconds 
Fenix 3: Hold the LEFT MIDDLE button for 3 seconds 
Fenix 5, 5s ,5x: press and quickly release the up key
FR 230, 235 and 735: Hold the UP button for 3 seconds 
FR 630: Press MENU button at the bottom of the watch display
FR 935: press and quickly release the up key
vívoactive: Press MENU button at the bottom right of the watch display 
vívoactive HR: Hold the RIGHT BOTTOM button for 3 seconds 

To browse the menu options use the UP or DOWN keys, or swipe if you have a touch screen device

There is a bug in the latest firmware for Fenix 5, 5s, 5x, Chronos and 935 that affects the menu operation on all Genius Wrist's apps.
To circumvent this issue, all apps were updated to open the menu with a quick press of the UP KEY.

The fix was made available in the following app versions:

Gym Genius - 1.2.4
Workout Genius - 1.8.5
Workout Builder - 1.3.5
Trainer Genius - 0.3.4




If when you try to register you see the message:

Email 'your@email' is already taken

That means you already logged on the website before.

The password recovery and the resend email confirmation only work for local accounts. If you registered with Gmail or Facebook, you must use the same authentication provider to log in. The forgot password feature or email confirmation will not work in these cases.

If you are sure you have a local account, then use the resend email confirmation or forgot password and check your spam inbox.

Configure your profile at Garmin Connect's Website and set your time zone. (Upload Time Zone field).
This is a general setting for all Garmin activities, it affects all apps

That is correct! 

There is no configuration in your mobile phone. All Genius Wrist's apps are configured on the watch app or the Genius Wrist's website

There are memory limitations in the devices and because of that the limit of simultaneous workout presets is 3.
You can keep more configurations in Genius Wrist's website and swap them as needed.

You can also plan your workouts with the training calendar, and setup your app to download your workouts based on the training schedule.

Gym Timer

Start the Gym Timer app

Fenix: Hold the MENU button for 3 seconds and select the START/STOP ACTIVITY option.
FR 235: Hold the UP button for 3 seconds and select the START/STOP ACTIVITY option.
Vívoactive: Press the START button (the one on the right side) of your watch.

Device specific issues

vívoactive devices (NON-HR) are keeping the GPS ON even when it is not selected.
This issue started in firmware 3.50 and had been reported by Garmin itself. Until now, there is no comment from Garmin about a fix for this problem.

It is required an external TEMPE sensor to use the temperature data field.
Unfortunately, Garmin imposes this restriction. Connect IQ apps have no access to the internal temperature sensor.
