Get Link Code and Online Sync problems

There are some scenarios that can produce this error:

If you have a windows phone read the next FAQ topic Windows Phone users cannot 'get link code'

- You are running and old version of "Garmin Connect Mobile" in your phone.

Get the updated version

- Your phone is not connected to the internet or the connection quality is poor.

Be sure you can access www.geniuswrist.com from your mobile phone.

Garmin Connect on Windows Phone is not capable of routing app requests to the internet.
That means: Until Garmin changes the implementation of Garmin Connect software for Windows Phone, Windows Phone users won't be able to use my apps since they require internet connection.
I opened a topic on Garmin official forum and I invite you to participate the discussion.
Garmin Forum - Windows Phone Connection Issues
That means the bluetooth connection between you mobile phone and your watch is not established.
Open the Garmin Connect app in your mobile phone and take a look at the connection status in the devices list.
The maintenance of the bluetooth connection with your phone is an internal feature of your watch. If you are experiencing a lot of instability, verify if you have the latest version of Garmin Connect App in your phone and the latest firmware in your watch. If the instability persists I recommend you request Garmin Support, the issue may be related to a compatibility issue in your phone hardware and Garmin Connect App.
Genius Wrist Apps do not connect directly to the internet. All apps depend on Garmin Connect App running on your phone to act as a bridge between your watch and the internet.

Genius Wrist's website never generates some error codes, and they happen because of problems in Garmin Connect App running on your phone.

The error codes 300, 400, 402 and 2 are some examples of error generated by the Garmin Phone app, not Genius Wrist's website.

Error messages usually occur if you try to "get link code" or "online sync" while your device is transferring data to your phone like uploading activities, sending activity tracking info, etc. These transmissions are not related to Genius Wrist apps, but it seems that Garmin Connect App cannot handle multiple transmissions simultaneously.

Bluetooth connection instability can also cause this issues.

Also be sure you have a stable internet connection in you phone and check if you have the latest version of Garmin Connect Mobile installed in your phone

Device Specific Issues

It is required an external TEMPE sensor to use the temperature data field.

Fenix: After firmware 7.20 Garmin removed the access to the internal temperature sensor from Connect IQ Apps.
There is a discussion about this bug in Garmin Official forum. Internal temperature sensor discussion at Garmin Forum

vívoactive HR: The internal temperature sensor was never available to Connect IQ Apps.

HRM-TRI ability to retrieve stored heart rate data while underwater is not supported by Garmin Connect IQ platform. Only Garmin NATIVE apps are capable of using this feature.

I started a thread in Garmin Connect IQ development forum to discuss it

I have no official confirmation but I stopped receiving complains about this after firmware 4.60. I suppose Garmin fixed it.

When you start the app, the sensor in the back of your device is activated.
Usually it take up to 60 seconds for your watch to acquire a steady reading of you heart rate data.
So be patient! Entering and quiting the app every 5 seconds won't help.

After firmware 4.20 it seems that the time to acquire a heart rate reading increased a lot.
I still have no confirmation if firmware 4.30 solved this issue. In my tests time ranges from 5 seconds to 4 or 5 minutes.
I received some complaints about the app not acquiring heart rate data, but that is not exactly what is happening. The fact is that you device is struggling to start capturing your heart rate.
If you restart your device (power off and on), it will quickly get a heart rate reading.

(Garmin Forum - 235 HR Issue)
vívoactive devices (NON HR) are keeping the GPS ON even when it is not selected.
This issue started in firmware 3.50 and has been reported by Garmin itself and it affects all Connect IQ apps.
Garmin is already working to solve this issue (probably in the next firmware release).

(Garmin Forum - Vívoactive Firmware 3.5)

It took a long time but Garmin fixed this bug in firmware 2.80

Vívoactive HR is not activating (or incorrectly disabling) the optical heart rate sensor and also is not correctly reading data from other external sensors (bike speed/cadence or external heart rate).
This bug is in the watch firmware and it affects only NON NATIVE Garmin applications, that means all applications in Garmin Connect Store. It was detected in firmware 2.20 and persisted in firmware 2.30, 2.40 and 2.60.

I started a thread to discuss this at Garmin official forum and other software developers are confirming the same issue (Garmin Forum - vívoactive HR is not starting the optical sensor). While there is no firmware release to fix this, I will not enable the premium features for vívoactive HR devices.

This limitation is imposed by Garmin Software Development Kit and there is no way to circumvent it.
Configure your profile at Garmin Connect's Website and set your time zone. (Upload Time Zone field).
This is a general setting for all garmin activities, it affects all apps
Explanation

Gym Timer

This app was developed considering that during one gym session you start lots of timers but start only one activity session.

Activity sessions and timers are not started/stopped together.

If your watch does not have a touch screen the button that you usually use to start an activity will NOT do it. This button will START/STOP the TIMER and the TIMER ONLY.
That is correct! There is no configuration for Gym Timer app in your mobile phone. All configuration is done in the watch itself or in the website www.geniuswrist.com/gymtimer
Fenix and 920: Hold the MENU button for 3 seconds and select the START/STOP ACTIVITY option.

FR 230/235: Hold the UP button for 3 seconds and select the START/STOP ACTIVITY option.

FR 630 and Epix: Press the START button (the right upper one).

Vívoactive: Press the START button (the one on the right side) of your watch.
vívoactive devices do not have sound capabilities, they have only vibration alerts.

Forerunner 630/230/235 have sound capabilities but this feature is disabled for now. It will be added in the future.
That is a good question.
The current options are simple and they could be handled easily by the app settings provided by Garmin Connect Phone app.

SO WHY?

Because this is just the beginning!
This web site provides the basis for a lot of things that will be available in the future.
We decided to take a small step to ensure that your experience, dear user, will be the best.

As soon we are confident that our infrastructure is stable we will release new features.
There is an activity session in progress

While an activity session is running the menu options "Get Link Code", "Online Sync" and "Select Sport" are removed from the list

Workout Genius

To use the virtual partner function you must update Workout Genius to version 1.6.0
Take a look at the virtual partner description page for additional info. Virtual Partner Info Page
That is correct! There is no configuration for Workout Genius app in your mobile phone.
All configuration is done in the website, and a user account registration (that's free) is required. www.geniuswrist.com/workoutgenius
There are memory limitations in the devices and so the limit of simultaneous workout presets is set to 3.
You can keep more configurations in Genius Wrist web site and swap them as needed.
The temperature data field require app version 1.0.5 or above. If your device does not have an internal temperature sensor (verify your device manual) or is paired with an external TEMPE sensor this field will not show data.
You are using an old version of workout genius app that is not capable of rendering the selected data field. Update the app in Get the latest version.
